Sales of the PlayStation 5 Pro in the U.S. are trailing behind those of the PlayStation 4 Pro during the same period. This was shared by market researcher Circana via analyst Mat Piscatella on Bluesky. Back in November, he noted that the PlayStation 5 Pro was performing similarly to its predecessor, but that momentum has now been lost. "The PS5 Pro is falling behind the pace of the PS4 Pro," Piscatella stated, without providing exact sales figures.

The reason for this decline is unclear. However, one key factor could be the significantly higher price of the PlayStation 5 Pro compared to the PlayStation 4 Pro at launch. While the PS4 Pro debuted at $400, the PS5 Pro starts at $700—without a disc drive or vertical stand. Additionally, the upgrade from the base PS4 to the PS4 Pro was easier to justify, as it introduced 4K resolution support at a time when 4K TVs were rapidly gaining popularity.

These figures only reflect U.S. sales, so the global picture remains uncertain. According to Piscatella, the Pro model is primarily aimed at dedicated gamers who seem willing to pay the premium price. "There were many different opinions on the price, but I don’t think it had a negative impact," he previously stated. However, that perception may have shifted over time.

The PlayStation 5 Pro launched on November 7, 2024. This enhanced version features a more powerful GPU, improved ray tracing, and PSSR technology, which upscales visuals to a higher resolution.
