The release of the new Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland has been delayed.

A new Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland is in development, but it won’t be released on its previously announced date. The film is still set for July, but not on the 24th—you can mark your calendar for July 31, 2026.

Sony and Marvel are collaborating on the project, and the delay seems intentional. The last Friday of July has been a lucky date for Marvel, as seen with Deadpool & Wolverine, which became a box office hit.

Another possible reason for the shift is Christopher Nolan’s new film, The Odyssey, starring Matt Damon, which premieres on July 17. Releasing Spider-Man too close to that could create competition for theaters, especially for IMAX screenings. A two-week gap is a safer bet. Now, Spider-Man will mainly compete with Paw Patrol 3, which shouldn’t be much of a threat.

Zendaya is expected to return, though negotiations are reportedly still ongoing. However, one character from the previous film won’t be back due to their on-screen fate—but we won’t spoil that for those who missed it.

One thing is clear: there’s a strong reason for more Tom Holland Spider-Man films—the first three grossed nearly €4 billion.
